The Ethereum Foundation has launched Platåberget, a public short-term testnet designed to expose upcoming Glamsterdam changes to broader community testing. Unlike the earlier short-lived devnets, Platåberget is intended to remain available for several months so application developers, infrastructure operators and validators can test compatibility before the upgrade reaches Ethereum's longer-lived test networks.
A major focus is the new gas-cost schedule. Glamsterdam includes changes that reprice state creation and state access, and the Foundation specifically warns that wallets, indexers, gas estimators and other tools that assume a hard maximum gas limit can fail unless those assumptions are updated. Some familiar assumptions around transfer costs and operations that create new state also need to be rechecked under the new schedule.
The testnet covers more than gas repricing. Glamsterdam also includes consensus- and execution-layer changes such as enshrined proposer-builder separation, block-level access lists, larger contract and initcode limits, and forward-compatible consensus data structures. A publicly joinable validator set gives solo stakers, infrastructure projects and larger operators a place to exercise validator and builder workflows against the developing protocol.
The practical role of Platåberget is to surface downstream breakage before the upgrade moves further toward production. The Foundation is asking developers and operators to test applications, tooling and infrastructure now and report issues back to specification and client teams. After the devnet work stabilizes, the plan is to move Glamsterdam through Sepolia and Hoodi before any eventual mainnet activation.
