Hedera introduced scaffold-hbar, an open-source CLI for quickly bootstrapping decentralized applications. Running `npm create scaffold-hbar@latest` creates a project with Next.js and lets developers choose Hardhat or Foundry for contracts. Testnet configuration, deployment scripts and baseline developer context are wired in automatically.
The tool is designed as multichain-first rather than Hedera-only. Its bridge template includes starting integrations for LayerZero, Chainlink CCIP and Axelar. A separate community template demonstrates a cross-chain index strategy where a user deposits ETH on Base, a message reaches Hedera and the strategy splits value between native HBAR and an HTS token.
Four built-in templates are available at launch: a blank scaffold, a Hedera demo using HTS, HCS and Schedule Service, recurring payments through HIP-1215 and a bridge template. Projects use Next.js, RainbowKit, wagmi, viem and Hedera-aware UI components, while contracts can be built with either Hardhat or Foundry.
scaffold-hbar also installs Hedera Skills for coding agents so they receive context about system contracts, native services and Hedera developer tooling. The project is MIT-licensed and built with Buidler Labs. Hedera notes that production cross-chain deployments still require project-specific integration testing, modifications and security review.
