Stellar Core v28.0.1 was released as a stability-improvement patch. Its changelog lists three concrete changes: deduplicating query messages, skipping background transaction-signature verification for unauthenticated peers, and clamping additions in transaction-set fee summing functions.
The first change reduces unnecessary duplicate work when processing queries. The second keeps expensive background signature verification from being spent on peers that have not authenticated, reducing avoidable node load in that network state. The third adds defensive handling to fee-summing arithmetic and reduces risk around boundary values.
Because this is a patch release, its significance is operational rather than a new end-user feature. Node operators still need to follow the project’s normal release procedure, verify compatibility with the current protocol version and monitor peer connectivity, catchup and ledger close behavior after upgrading.
For XLM, the release is an infrastructure-quality signal. It does not directly change token economics, but reducing unnecessary work and hardening fee arithmetic both contribute to more predictable behavior in the software that runs the network.
