Mysten Labs released Sui `testnet-v1.79.0`. The notes list protocol version 136 plus changes across protocol rules, node routing and indexer interfaces. Feature-flag scope is important: `TransactionExpiration::Validity`, which restricts a transaction to named consensus proposers, sits behind `allowed_proposers`, enabled on devnet only. The release explicitly says there is no mainnet or testnet change from that feature.
Protocol v135 introduces tighter `TxContext` restrictions in Programmable Transaction Blocks: mutable context may appear at most once as `&mut TxContext`, read-only context can appear as `&TxContext`, and invalid signatures are rejected earlier with `InvalidTxContext`. Version 136 also exposes `package_arena_size_in_bytes` at 10 MB, matching prior hardcoded behavior.
At the node layer, full nodes can send proposer-restricted transactions only to the validators named by the transaction. Alternative JSON-RPC and GraphQL indexers now require `--ledger-grpc-url` for key-value lookups, while GraphQL adds `Query.multiGetBalances` for querying balances across multiple addresses.
For SUI, this is a testnet software release rather than a blanket statement about current mainnet behavior. Operators and developers should check feature flags and actual protocol activation before carrying release-note behavior into mainnet assumptions.
